'X' is a multi-faceted entity, consisting of three main parts: The Event, The Agency and Sponsors.


The 'X' Event:

Through the inspiration and support of many, the vision and concept of 'X' was conceived by David Fogel, curator / co-founder of 88, a Washington DC based multi-media production company committed to providing conscientious cutting edge products. The intention behind 'X' was to create a 21st century Live-art "happening". A kick-ass, inspired and inspiring event that brings artists out of their  studios and into a multi-media, live-art environment. The event had 3 main purposes:

  1. Shake up the artistic process through the power of a creatively charged environment
  2. Allow attendees to follow the artistic process, giving them an added appreciation for artistic talent.
  3. Feature cutting edge talent.

The essence of the event is symbolized through the equation:

LIVE ( Electronica + Projections + Art + Fashion + Performance ) + YOU = X

In January of 2007, 88 met with a creative social enterprise called FlavoredLayers whose intention was to optimize the resources within creative movements by providing the marketing resources and business infrastructure necessary for a creative culture to evolve and self sustain.


The 'X' Agency:

In October of 2007, 88 and FlavoredLayers began working with a socially and environmentally conscious design firm called Conversant Creative to develop XAgency. This agency would help the movement's growing community of creatives through work and project management. XAgency is a win-win for everyone involved:

  • Artists of the X community get professional representation, contract and rights negotiation, and exposure;
  • Clients get assistance finding the right artist to suit their specific needs for style, budget, skill and time line.

Inspired by the community that participates at each happening, X will evolve in new directions. Regardless, as a venue 'X' will remain committed to fostering a symbiotic relationship with the creative community while providing event goers a unique environment of forward thinking artistic talent. 'X' Sponsors:

Businesses that sponsor 'X' support it on multiple levels. A sponsorship not only aligns a business with a targeted demographic of taste makers and players in the creative economy, but it also supports the artists that we use in the event and agency.
